THE Brooklyn Nets have been added to the list of teams that will rebuild during the 2024-25 season after the trade Mikal Bridges At The New York Knicks earlier this summer. At this point, Brooklyn should only be concerned with player evaluation and obtaining draft picks, but there could be an opportunity for them to go after a disgruntled star.
According to Will Guillory from The Athletic, the The New Orleans Pelicans recently held a voluntary mini-camp and all of the players on the roster showed up except for two. One of the players was center Daniel Theis and the other, which could interest a team in reconstruction like the Netswas the star striker Brandon Ingram.
At this point, there have been no rumors that the Nets have a major interest in Ingram to the point that they would be willing to trade him, but if the Pelicans were to ever trade him, it’s possible that their price tag wouldn’t be too high at this point. At the heart of the rift between Ingram and the Pelicans is the fact that he wanna a four-year maximum extension and it doesn’t appear any team is in any rush to make that happen for him in a trade.
That being said, Ingram and the Nets could find common ground in helping each other get what they want at this point. For example, Brooklyn is interested in young players and draft picks and if New Orleans is desperate enough to trade Ingram, they might be willing to attach draft capital to him to make the deal happen.
If that happens, the Nets will get what they want and they will also give Ingram a chance to showcase his skills for a rebuilding team as he heads into a contract year of his own so he can try to increase his value as much as possible. However, there may be too much downside for either side for there to be a meaningful chance of a trade happening, but it could be worth considering given the circumstances surrounding Ingram and the Pelicans right now.
