The two greatest Dallas Mavericks of all time will team up in Goran Dragic’s Farewell Match. Luka Doncic selected Dirk Nowitzki was selected in the draft yesterday and his team will face Dragic’s team.
They shared the land together during the 2018–19 NBA season. It was Nowitzki’s final year as a pro and Doncic’s first.
The Mavericks’ all-time leading scorer was no longer in his prime when the younger Doncic arrived in town. They only played together for one season, but that didn’t stop them from building a relationship off the court.
“I’m really proud of how he’s evolved. My role with him is we’re friends, we’re cool and when I’m in town we go out to dinner. Mentor would be a little strong because he doesn’t really need me,” Nowitzki said. on the All the Smoke podcast.
“He plays like a 32-year-old veteran in the way he reads the game and the way he carries himself on the court. I wish I could say I helped him and talked to him about it, but the guy’s been a pro since he was 11,” Nowitzki said.

It appears the 2011 Finals MVP won’t get any minutes on the court, but he’ll certainly be cheering on Dallas’ current superstar from the bench. Nowitzki is well past his prime and there will be stiff competition on the court, including two players who have won five of the last five editions. The last six NBA MVP awards:Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Dragic’s farewell game is a charity event, and we wouldn’t want to see the 46-year-old, 6’11” player get injured. This game will definitely remain a must-see event for basketball fans, and the Dallas greats will likely share some quality time together during the event.
The game starts at 2pm EST on the NBA App.
