What there is to know

The Mavericks and Pacers have been tied 5-5 since February 2019, but not for long. The Dallas Mavericks will play at home against the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. ET at the American Airlines Center. Both of these teams will experience defeat in a game they were supposed to win.

Last Sunday, Dallas was within reach but couldn’t close the gap, losing 120-116 to the 76ers. The Mavericks have now taken an “L” in consecutive games.

This defeat does not tell the whole story, because several players had good matches. One of the most active was Luka Doncic, who achieved a triple-double with 38 points, 11 rebounds and ten assists. He hasn’t dropped below 26 points in 11 straight games. Another player who made the difference was Derrick Jones Jr., who scored 21 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, the Pacers and Spurs couldn’t reach the 243 over/under predicted by experts. Indiana fell 117-105 in the loss column to the Spurs on Sunday. The Pacers discovered that winning isn’t easy when you’re not working as a unit and posting 13 fewer assists than your opponent.

TJ McConnell put up a good effort for the losing team scoring 26 points along with five assists and three steals. Tyrese Haliburton’s dreadful 0-6 three-point shooting was less helpful for the Pacers.

The Pacers struggled to work together and finished the game with just 20 assists. This is the fewest assists they have managed all season.

Dallas’ loss ended a four-game home winning streak and dropped them to 34-27. As for Indiana, they have struggled recently as they have lost three of their last four games, which has significantly dented their 34-28 record this season.

Tuesday’s game is shaping up to be a shooting masterclass: the Mavericks simply can’t miss this season, hitting 48 percent of their shots per game. However, it’s not like the Pacers (currently ranked first in field goal percentage) are struggling in that department as they’ve made 50.7% of their shots this season. Given these competing forces, it will be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

As for their next game, the Mavericks are the favorites, as experts expect them to win by 4.5 points. For those looking to play the spread, take note: they are a solid 20-13 against the spread when expecting to win.

Odds

Dallas is a 4.5-point favorite against Indiana, according to the latest NBA Odds.

The punters were perfectly in tune with the betting community on this point, as the game opened with a 4.5 point spread and stayed there.

Oddsmakers are expecting fireworks from the offense and have pegged the over/under at a high of 245.5 points.
