The Boston Celtics are still the favorites to win this year’s championship despite losing twice to the Denver Nuggets this season.
DENVER — If you’ve watched the NBA championship odds this season, then you know that all year long, the Boston Celtics have been the favorites to win it all.
But after Denver beat them for the second time on Thursday, I wonder why the probabilities haven’t changed? What additional evidence do you need to see?
Well, the Nuggets should be the favorites to win the title now. They beat Boston twice, they have the best player in the world in Nikola Jokic and they are the defending champions.
The Celtics’ roster is more talented, but the fact that they fell apart twice against Denver should be indicative of what could happen in June.
The two teams are set to meet in the finals, but I think seeing Denver win on Thursday should make everyone realize they’re the new favorites — and I’d pick them in seven games over Boston.
But the entire NBA world will always choose the Celtics and that’s okay. It’s close, for sure, but in these two games I’ve seen, it’s clear to me that the Nuggets might just be the Celtics’ kryptonite.
