“I think you’re going to see how important Pop is and will be to Wemby,” former Spur DeMar DeRozan said.

SAN ANTONIO — Former San Antonio Spurs Forward DeMar DeRozan was a guest on the “P Podcast” with Paul George and praised the duo of Victor Wembanyama and coach Gregg Popovich.

“Wemby is already a hell of a kid. The discipline, the hunger, the drive, it’s already there. Under Pop’s tutelage, I think you’ll see how special this season is,” he said. “I think you’ll see how important Pop is and will be to Wemby.”

Pop took a slow, deliberate approach with Wemby last season. He allowed him to play freely, observing him before taking more directed coaching. That allowed Wemby to see his numbers skyrocket and lead to him being named the 2023-24 NBA Rookie of the Year.

This duo will be essential for the team’s current rebuild and for its future after the Popovich era.

SPURS MATCHES ON AMAZON PRIME?

According to the The New York Post Josh Kosman, Amazon and Diamond Sports Group are nearing a major deal to stream NBA, MLB and NHL games on Amazon Prime streaming.

“With the new streaming service — which could launch next month with the start of the NHL and NBA seasons — sources said fans will pay about $20 a month to access their local team’s home games through Prime,” the NY Post reported.

Spurs games were broadcast locally via Bally Sports, Bally Sports+, KENS 5 TV or other media.

It will be interesting to see where this goes, as one of the main gripes from Silver and Black fans has been the ease of access to watch the games and the expensive subscriptions that can be required to watch Spurs action.
