Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo already has two MVP trophies under his belt. He could now be on his way to win a third title this season in the midst of what has been a truly impressive campaign for the Bucks talisman.

Despite the incredible things Giannis has done this season, many people still aren’t convinced he should be one of the favorites for the MVP award. According to Bucks head coach Doc Rivers, this is just disrespectful.

According to Coach Doc, there’s one major reason why there isn’t enough clamor around Antetokounmpo’s MVP claim this season. Rivers believes Giannis is following in the footsteps of the GOAT himself, Michael Jordan.

It’s not that the Bucks star is emulating MJ’s eminence or anything like that (or is he?), but Rivers argues that just like Jordan, pundits might become a little too desensitized to greatness from Giannis:

“I don’t even want to get into it, but there are guys you I’m tired of voting forsaid Rivers, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “Michael (Jordan) is perhaps the example of that.

“And Giannis seems to be in that category; where you are so good, everything you do is taken for granted. When you look at his numbers, they are incredible, and yet you never hear his name. It’s amazing, but in some ways it’s more of a sign of respect than disrespect.

He’s not wrong.

For what it’s worth, Antetokounmpo is considered one of the “sleepers” to win the MVP title in 2023-24. The consensus favorites currently are Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Giannis and Rivers may be planning to change that narrative soon.
