Ten days ago, ESPN’s First Take studio became the scene of an outburst from JJ Reddick. His eyes held deep rage as he wreaked havoc on his former trainer Doc Rivers. After taking the job as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, Reddick chastised him for always making excuses and putting the team “under the bus”. Having played under him with the Clippers, Stephen A. Smith knew these allegations were serious.

Patrick Beverley was one of the first to get in front of Rivers and fight back. I was followed by his son, Austin Rivers, who decided to take a few shots of his own, reminding Reddick of how his father had his best years with the Clippers.
“Your best years in the NBA were when you played for him and the Clippers…I don’t know if there’s frustration or if there’s tension between you, I know a lot of times we had to sit you down the end of the match. for defensive reasons, Rivers said. "It’s just very ironic and a little weird that you have this energy towards him,"

The situation seemed to be getting worse. Or at least that’s how it might have been perceived. JJ Reddick was clearly not on the side of his former HC. Surprisingly, his recent view was quite mature and supportive of Doc.
JJ Reddick confides in Doc Rivers
During his latest podcast episode, the former NBA sharpshooter gave an overview of the hotly contested Eastern Conference. The ESPN analyst was unable to go beyond the Boston Celtics winning the Eastern Conference this season. But he was always ready to argue and he started his segment with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Reddick spoke enthusiastically about the Bucks’ clear defensive improvements. In particular, he highlighted changes to the Bucks’ pick-and-roll defense, which has performed significantly better since Rivers took over. Then he said something that might make you wonder if he ever belittled Doc Rivers.
“I firmly believe that if this team is good enough defensively. They don’t have to be great and they’ve been pretty darn good since Doc took over. If they’re good enough. Offensively, Doc will figure out how to maximize this offense. He did that with the Clippers team, he did that with James and Joel. He’s going to figure out how to maximize this attack.” Reddick said.

His tone had completely changed. There was no more Reddick burning while talking about Doc Rivers. Instead, he recognized his tactical mastery when it came to committing a dangerous attack. Rivers has a history of making the most of star power, especially offensively. With Giannis Anttokounmpo And Damien LillardProbably the two most prevalent inside and outside scorers respectively, Rivers is probably in the middle of something revolutionary right now.
As for defense, the Bucks started their tenure playing atrocious. They were 1-4 and the blame was quickly placed on the HC, just like Austin Rivers said. However, in the last five games, all won by Milwaukee, they have held their opponents under 100 points in four games. Additionally, their defense is taking shape of its own, allowing them to win games and overshadowing their giant offensive power.

Brook Lopez has been critical of this. He’s holding opponents to 46.8%, one of the best in the entire league. He and Giannis Antetokounmpo mercilessly stopped their opponents. Such developments were inevitable if one thought about it. This is a team that has guys who desperately need to win. Their desire is overflowing.
The question is: can they compete with the mighty Celtics?
