It’s been two years since the blockbuster trade that saw former Jazz player Donovan Mitchell traded to the The Cleveland Cavaliers. THE Utah Jazz and the Cavaliers have done well in trades so far. However, despite little playoff success, Mitchell had to remind everyone that he has no regrets by posting ESPN NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski’s original tweet from two years ago that broke the news.

No one expected to be traded to Cleveland. Rumors leading up to the trade said Mitchell was going to Cleveland. The New York KnicksThe Jazz dodged a bullet by turning to the Cavaliers. The trade with the Knicks could have focused on the possibilities of RJ Barrett, Quentin Grimes or Immanuel Quickley landing in Salt Lake City.

Additionally, with the emergence of Jaylen Brunson, the draft capital Utah would have received from New York appears to be out of the lottery. Instead, the Jazz got an All-Star in Lauri Markkanen and a solid rotation player in Collin Sexton. Utah’s first-round draft pick in the trade arrives this year in what should be a class loaded with talent.

Mitchell’s best years as a pro so far have come in Cleveland. In his first year as a Cavalier, he posted career-highs in points, field goal percentage, and three-point field goal percentage. The Cavaliers had a disappointing playoff run and were eliminated in the first round.

Mitchell had another breakout season in his second year with the Cavs. They reached the second round of the NBA playoffs before being defeated by the Boston CelticsMitchell was rewarded with a $150 million extension over the next three seasons.

There’s still a lot of basketball to be played, but the Cavaliers don’t have much time left to be considered the winners. Mitchell only signed a three-year deal to stay in Cleveland and will still be in top shape when he’s up for another contract. It’s questionable whether he’ll make one last attempt to return home and play for the Knicks or the Brooklyn Nets.

The Jazz still have a long way to go before they can be called winners. Utah is entering its third year of rebuilding and there is still much more talk about failing to have another season than qualifying for the playoffs.
