The Brooklyn Nets’ rebuild could take a drastic turn in the hands of the NBA lottery and how the drafts play out.

If the 2024 NBA Draft didn’t feature any standout generational talent, that should change with the 2025 NBA Draft. Headlined by Duke star Cooper Flagg, franchise-changing players should hear their names called. That leaves a huge opportunity for the Brooklyn Nets to quickly turn the team around.

While no fan wants to see their favorite team take a break during the season, that may be exactly what the Nets need. Finishing last in the league could give Brooklyn the top pick — and ultimately Flagg — in the lottery. Trading away all the veterans who have won now to acquire young, inexperienced players is a great way to do that while prioritizing the future.

Now, with players like Ace Bailey, Dylan Harper, VJ Edgecombe and more not to be forgotten, Flagg is the perfect prospect for the Nets to bring in early in their rebuild. The Duke freshman is a 6-foot-10 forward with true two-way ability.

The only criticism that can be made of Flagg at the moment is his jump shot. He is capable of converting, but improving the fluidity of his shot would allow him to reveal the potential of the franchise player. He has the ability to pass the ball, score on the basket and completely transform a defense.

Flagg’s arrival in Brooklyn would be a great fit for his career. The athletic and highly sought-after forward has all the potential on the court in terms of his physical abilities and skills, but it’s on the mental level where he really wins.

Whether he was playing against other top recruits in the country or the best players in the country in Olympic training, Flagg approached the game like an alpha. He would help establish the Nets’ culture with his physical and mental abilities, and give the club the perfect start to its rebuild.
