Many people outside the organization or those who do not cover the Charlotte Hornets In everyday life, I don’t realize how much LaMelo Ball He cares about the game. For some reason, there’s always been this narrative around him that he doesn’t care that much about winning and that it’s not a priority for him. If you’ve spent any time around him, you know that’s not true.

But the story continues. ESPN’s Tim McMahon gave a brutal take on the Hornets’ star point guard and questioned his desire to be great on a good team.

“I don’t know if LaMelo Ball can play winning basketball. I don’t know if LaMelo Ball can be the franchise player in a winning game because he has a pretty calorie-free game. He can fill up a scoreboard, but his efficiency, despite the fact that he’s shot three-pointers pretty well, is zero. His defense is horrible. And I don’t see a lot of evidence that the guy considers winning a priority.”

Sure, Ball needs to improve on defense and needs to be better at shot selection, but that has nothing to do with his desire to win. He’s been out for most of the last two seasons due to lingering ankle issues. When he’s on the court, he plays with a lot of energy and emotion. He just needs to learn how to channel that energy and know when to play at a slower pace and not go for the best every time he gets a chance to make a play.
