After five seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, forward Dylan Windler has decided to take his talents to the southern hemisphere, not South Beach. On Thursday, the former Cavs first-round pick signed with the Perth Wildcats of Australia’s NBL, the National Basketball League. Before joining the Wildcats, Dylan Windler split playing time with the Cavs, Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks. He also played 29 regular-season games in the G League.

Windler may have caught the attention of the Wildcats because of his high-end shooting, athleticism and rebounding. During his time with the New York Knicks’ G League affiliate, he once pulled down a Kevin Love-esque 33 rebounds, setting a new league record.

“Dylan will bring a high level of shooting to the group. Rebounding is something he has consistently shown at a high level for his position. two lines only “That should help the Wildcats,” head coach John Rillie said.

Meanwhile, Wildcats general manager Danny Mills agreed.

“We believe Dylan is a great addition to our returning group, rounding out our roster for the NBL25 season. With five years of NBA experience, his strengths in perimeter shooting, rebounding from the wing and athleticism are a perfect fit for what we were looking for in this final roster spot,” Mills said.

For his part, Dylan Windler seems excited to join the Wildcats on a new continent.

“I did some research before making my decision and quickly noticed the winning tradition Perth has had in the NBL,” said the former Cavs first-round pick. “I plan to bring a winning mentality and work ethic to the team, doing whatever I need to do to help the team succeed.”

As Windler said, the Cavs have slowly built a winning tradition that began with their historic selection of LeBron James in 2003. James transformed the team from a perennial Eastern Conference bottom of the table to an NBA champion in 2016.

After his departure, the Cavs continued their winning ways, despite a five-game loss to the Boston Celtics last season. Since then, they have extended Donovan Mitchell’s contract. They also have locked in Jarrett Allen And Evan Mobley to new contractsThe team’s core of Mitchell, Allen, Mobley and Darius Garland should see more playoff action for the foreseeable future, a positive sign for the country.
