LeBron James’ Former Los Angeles Lakers Teammates recently spoke about his longevity in the NBA. James has been in the league for more than two decades. James is about to enter his 22nd season this year. He is also now the oldest player in the league, but he doesn’t act like it. Although James will soon turn 40 this December, he is still one of the most dominant players in the league today. He recently won his third Olympic gold medal and was also named MVP. With all of this in mind, it’s really hard not to talk about LeBron’s consistent greatness over the years.
Former Lakers stars Dwight Howard And DeMarcus Cousins shared their thoughts on James on Howard’s podcast. Cousins was impressed with LeBron’s performance at this late stage of his career. He had a hard time believing that, despite being the oldest player in the league, he was still putting up elite numbers.
“Doing unheard of stuff,” Cousins said. “The son of a bitch has a 25-grade average [points] “At 40.”
Howard then jokingly asked if James might be taking steroids. While the idea of LeBron taking steroids seems out of the question to some, it’s not entirely impossible considering how he’s been able to maintain his athleticism over the years. However, Cousins seemed reluctant to answer Howard’s question and simply commented:
“I’m not going to get into that debate.”
LeBron James’ Greatness Continues

LeBron James will soon turn 40 in December, but he shows no signs of slowing down significantly. While there are signs that age is catching up with him, James continues to perform at an elite level. Despite recent challenges in his quest for a fifth title, LeBron remains arguably the best player on the Los Angeles Lakers.

As he approaches his 30s, James is a regular All-Star. He can also still put up impressive stats. Last season, LeBron averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, 7.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting 54.0%, despite critics questioning his shooting efficiency.
Even though he is approaching 40, it is still safe to say that James is the best basketball player in the world. At the 2024 Olympics, he led a team full of NBA stars, but it was LeBron who won the MVP award and the gold medal. Being crowned champion and most valuable player of an international event underscores his status as the best player in the world.
With his recent exploits, it will be fascinating to see what other records James could set as a 40-year-old or older NBA player.
