Alex Fudge re-signed with the The Los Angeles Lakersthe team announced Thursday. He spent the 2023-24 season with the Lakers and The Dallas Mavericks. Fudge signed a two-way contract with Dallas during the season and even played for the Mavs’ Summer League team last offseason.

Fudge, 21, has played in six total NBA games between the Mavs and Lakers during the 2023-24 campaign. He has averaged 5.5 points on 55.6 percent shooting over that span. Fudge has added 1.5 rebounds per outing in 13 minutes per game.

The Mavericks let Fudge go after Summer League ended. He showed signs of potential, but Dallas has gone in a different direction. Dallas’ roster is nearly complete at the moment and the Mavs have more tough decisions to make.

Meanwhile, the Lakers needed a little more depth. Fudge still has interesting potential and could make an impact for LA. He will have to work hard to get regular playing time, though.

What Former Mavericks Forward Alex Fudge Brings to the Lakers

Fudge can finish around the basket. That said, he’s working on becoming a more reliable all-around scorer. Fudge would benefit from adding a consistent jump shot to his game.

There’s a lot to like about Fudge, though. At a minimum, he should be someone teams could use as a quality rebounder and defender. Fudge could even earn a starting role one day if he takes a step forward offensively.

It’s important to remember that Fudge is only 21 years old. The Mavericks will be just fine without him and he won’t make or break the Lakers’ season, but again, his potential shouldn’t be overlooked.
