On Tuesday, it was reported that a former member of the The Philadelphia 76ers The front office will fill a new position during the 2024-25 NBA season.

According to ESPN Adrien WojnarowskiSergi Oliva will coach the Rip City Remix, the G League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Working in Portland is not a new start for Oliva. In 2022, Oliva joined the Blazers organization as an assistant general manager in the front office.

Oliva’s career in management began with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2014. He was originally a basketball operations analyst before the Daryl Morey era. When Oliva left Philadelphia, he left behind a role as vice president of strategy.

Joining the Utah Jazz in 2020, Oliva teamed up with Quin Snyder, becoming an assistant coach. He stayed in Utah for a few seasons before heading to Portland.

Oliva’s start as a head coach in the G League doesn’t mean the end of his managerial career. According to Wojnarowski, the Blazers intend to allow Oliva to resume his role with the Blazers at the end of the season.
