For the past five seasons, Phil Handy has served as an assistant coach with the team. The Los Angeles Lakersfirst under head coach Frank Vogel and then under Darvin Ham. Considered the best player development coach in the NBA, he worked with many players, young and old, to help them improve their skills and refine their game.

He was fired along with Ham a few months ago and has not been reinstated, much to the dismay of many Lakers fans. It’s a puzzling decision, especially considering the organization now seems to be focusing more on player development and building an ecosystem to nurture young players.

Handy took to social media to thank Lakers fans for the love and support they have shown him.

Handy is only 53 years old, so it must be assumed that he will continue to coach basketball teams in some capacity. However, he has yet to be recruited by another team.
