Zion Williamson is entering a pivotal season with the New Orleans Pelicans.
During his first four seasons in the NBA, he was unable to live up to the hype that accompanied him into the league.
He had to deal with numerous injury problems which completely derailed the start of his career.
Last season, he played a career-high 70 regular-season games. Unfortunately, he was injured in the Pelicans’ playoff game and missed their playoff run.
With the 2024-25 NBA season fast approaching, Williamson appears to be in great shape. lost weight and looks healthier than it ever was in New Orleans.
This has generated a lot of excitement and hype among Pelicans fans. However, a former NBA superstar has urged caution when it comes to Williamson and his weight loss.
During an appearance on his “7pm in Brooklyn” PodcastCarmelo Anthony has spoken out and expressed a reason for caution when it comes to transformation.
“He looked like he was in the best shape of his life. But it’s not about getting in shape, it’s about staying in shape. You have to stay in shape. Now, you’re going to get there, but are you going to keep going? Are you going to do what you have to do to stay in that shape? How are you going to do that? It’s a long season, and you have to work really hard to stay in that shape. There’s no rest days.”
Anthony is right. Losing weight is a good first step, but Williamson must remain committed to maintaining his weight. There must be no flaws in the process he followed to lose weight.
Maybe Williamson is genuinely frustrated with what he has done so far in the NBA and wants to fix his issues. That is a very likely reason and that motivation would help him stay determined to stay in shape.
Of course, he’s also New Orleans’ hope. Williamson remains the cornerstone of their franchise and they need him healthy and on the field to play at a high level.
It will be interesting to see how the next NBA season plays out for Williamson and the Pelicans.
Hopefully the 24-year-old star is truly moving on.
