PHOENIX – Former Phoenix Suns point guard Goran Dragic is expected to officially say Goodbye basketball game in his home country of Slovenia on Saturday – and the guest list includes some familiar faces.
Dirk Nowitzki, Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Chris Bosh and even former Suns teammate and NBA MVP Steve Nash will be in attendance either for the festivities or the game itself.
The 38-year-old had already announced his retirement from the NBA last December, with the farewell game having been in the works for some time.
He spent five seasons in Phoenix from 2008-11 and 2012-15. The first stint was highlighted by a 23-point performance in the fourth quarter against the San Antonio Spurs that gave the Suns a 3-0 lead in the 2010 Western Conference Semifinals.
He was traded to Houston the following February for Aaron Brooks before being brought back a year later as a direct replacement for Nash.
He largely lived up to his promise, and this was confirmed by his being named the NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2014. Dragic’s relationship with Phoenix unfortunately deteriorated the following season after the signing of Isaiah Thomas – Dragic was traded to the Miami Heat in February 2015.
Dragic then spent most of the rest of his career with Miami before spending time with 4 different teams over his final two seasons.
Dragic retired with averages of 13.3 PPG and 4.7 APG, including a career-high 20.3 PPG with the Suns in 2013-14.
Good luck to Goran in his retirement!
