Julius Randle had already solidified his third All-Star honor, although it had not yet been announced. He was part of a surging New York Knicks team that started 2024 with a bang. Everything changed at the end of January when he dislocated his shoulder at the end of the match against the Heat.

It was 35 days ago. Since then, Randle has been working to recover from his injury. Surgery has not been ruled out, but it has been reported that the star forward is expected to return before the end of the regular season. Some videos show him being shot, as if he was about to return.

Randle suffered an ankle injury late in the 2022-23 regular season and aggravated the injury in the postseason. He didn’t look like the same player he did before. Fortunately, his current injury did not occur late in the regular season and did not affect his lower body. However, Randle will still struggle with discomfort upon his return.

Former Knick Channing Frye also suffered a dislocated shoulder during his playing years. He dislocated his shoulder while playing for the Suns in 2011 and only missed five games, avoiding a surgical intervention. He suffered a second dislocation late in the season, which required surgery.

In an interview with the New York Post, Frye provided insight into how Randle’s return will happen.

“[Randle’s] is a very physical human being. And he commits fouls by putting that ball in their chest and blowing them away. When people cut and you’re trying to put it back together, rebuild the muscles that were torn or damaged or whatever, it takes a while,” Frye said. “And every time this thing gets stretched or pulled or tugged, it doesn’t feel good.”

Frye emphasized the importance of rehabilitation and said he thinks it will be worth Randle’s time to return this season.

“It’s the regular season. It’s the playoffs. And the Knicks are good this year. The Knicks are very good. I’ll be rehabbing too,” Frye said. “I wouldn’t have had surgery either. Forget it. I think they have a chance to make some noise.”
