THE Oklahoma City Thunder are set to begin their 2024-25 season soon, which means the G League campaign is also just around the corner. The OKC Blue are ready to start their G League championship defense on Nov. 12.

31 G League teams will play at least 50 games during the season. The season will be split into two parts, between the Tip-Off tournament and the remainder of the regular season. The G League playoffs will conclude the season in April 2025.

As with most G League rosters, expect a high turnover rate. The Thunder use their G League roster generously to assign and recall players often. It’s one of the benefits of the two teams sharing an arena. The rest of the roster should also see frequent changes. One of those occurred Monday.

The Blues announced that they have traded the returning rights to Chasson Randle to the Iowa Wolves for the returning rights to Javonte Cooke. OKC traded the 31-year-old veteran for someone younger with a bit more upside.

Cooke was not selected in the 2023 NBA draft out of Winston-Salem. He spent the last two seasons with the Iowa Wolves, the Minnesota Timberwolves“Affiliated with the G League. He is averaging 10.7 points on 42.8% shooting, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 32 career G League games. He is shooting 33.6% from three-point range on 4.7 attempts.

The 25-year-old is worth a shot. His outside shot is intriguing. Maybe he can be an outside option for the Blues. OKC is one of the best development programs. It will be interesting to see if he can maximize Cooke’s potential.
