THE Golden State Warriors They could certainly improve their lack of size up front, something they haven’t really done this NBA offseason.
Fortunately, there are still a few months left before the start of the 2024-25 campaign, so the Warriors still have time to rectify this issue.
So who could Golden State potentially acquire to bolster its frontcourt?
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed a trade in which the Warriors would bring in Atlanta Hawks center Clint Capela. The Dubs would trade Kevon Looney, Gary Payton II, Moses Moody and a second-round draft pick as part of the deal.
Capela is coming off a solid season in which he played 73 games and averaged 11.5 points, 10.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 25.8 minutes per game while shooting 57.1 percent from the field.
Even at 30 years old, Capela would represent a massive addition for the Warriors, as he would be a marked upgrade from what Golden State has previously used on its front line.
Of course, Golden State fans will best remember Capela from his time with the Houston Rockets, where he faced the Warriors in the playoffs on multiple occasions.
Capela spent the first six years of his career with the Rockets before being traded to the Hawks in February 2020.
NBA RUMORS AND NEWS: Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks Updates
During his first full campaign in Atlanta the following season, Capela led the league in rebounds, accumulating 14.3 rebounds per night.
Capela doesn’t offer much offensive versatility, but he’s a great screen-and-roll option and has a 62.1 percent field goal percentage.
But the Swiss is above all a true double-double, averaging double-doubles over seven consecutive seasons. During his time in the NBA since arriving in the league in 2014-15, Capela has recorded 12.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.
Can the Golden State Warriors win another title?
The Warriors won four titles between 2015 and 2022, but over the past two years it’s become increasingly clear that the sun has set on Golden State’s dynasty.
The final blow may have come earlier this offseason, when longtime sharpshooter Klay Thompson left for the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent.
Stephen Curry remains an elite player, but Draymond Green has declined significantly and the Warriors roster as a whole is far from its championship years.
NBA RUMORS AND NEWS: Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks Updates
Golden State has every right to claim a playoff spot, even in the tough Western Conference. And with the right picks, the Dubs could potentially be a legitimate threat in the first round.
But it seems hard to imagine the Golden State Warriors adding another Larry O’Brien trophy to their display case in 2025.
