Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr revealed Thursday that forward Andrew Wiggins will take a leave of absence this season due to an undisclosed personal matter.

Kerr said the team doesn’t know when Wiggins will return: “We’re in a position where Wiggs is a private person and he’s been asked to keep this private and we’re going to honor that. So it doesn’t help me to sit here and try to explain all of this. At the end of In fact, we respect Wiggs, we need him and we fully expect him to return, but we just don’t know when that will be the case.

Wiggins missed the Warriors’ game against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday and was also ruled out of Thursday’s road game against the New York Knicks. Wiggins missed the final 25 games of last season due to a family matter that was kept private. The veteran All-Star forward returned for the 2022-23 playoffs, playing every game averaging 16.7 points per game.

Wiggins averaged 12.7 points and 4.3 rebounds in 51 games this season. The Warriors currently sit in ninth place in the Western Conference.
