THE Sacramento Kings made a splash this offseason with the sign-and-trade to acquire six-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan The Chicago Bulls. Much of the league media has remained undecided about this move and its impact on Sacramento, but Kings fans will be the first to say how excited they are to see DeRozan in purple.
Former Kings All-Star and Hall of Famer Mitch Richmond has joined The Drive Guys on Sactown Sports 1140 and praised Sacramento’s acquisition of DeRozan.
I love it. I love it. I’m excited for the Kings. DeMar DeRozan fits the bill. They already had an exceptional team, but they’re still young. If they do that consistently in the second half of the season, you’re talking about a playoff team that could really, really go deep… they’re not that far off… The sky’s the limit for this team and I think they needed a veteran like DeRozan to come in and really solidify the team.

Richmond had seven fantastic seasons in Sacramento, including six All-Star appearances and five All-NBA selections. If there’s one former King who knows what it takes to take this team to the next level, it’s Mitch Richmond.
The Kings desperately needed a wing threat to complete the zone build around De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. While Keegan Murray has shown glimpses of his potential as an offensive threat, putting DeRozan next to him will speed up their process.
The Kings have built a team with more offensive power than almost any team in the league, but still have a few defenders who can keep them balanced. Sacramento should be very dangerous in the 2024-25 season, and Mitch Richmond sees the vision.
