Kings cut Spurs
Sacramento is in action Saturday night against the Golden State Warriors and will play the back-to-back for this matchup. Domantas Sabonis scored 31 points and added 17 rebounds and nine assists, recording his 45th consecutive double-double.
De’Aaron Fox scored 17 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter before fouling out in the final minute. With the Kings leading 129-126, Malik Monk hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 23 seconds remaining. Sabonis followed with a steal and dunk to put Sacramento in front. Sacramento finished the game with a score of 7-0. “Obviously we would have preferred not to be in this position, but at the end of the day it’s a close game against an NBA team. » Fox told the Associated Press journalists. “You try to run full length and get stops whenever you can.” The Kings dominated inside, outscoring San Antonio 76-52 in the paint. One night shy of dropping 44 points on the Lakers, Fox scored 33 more on Thursday. He has scored 30 or more points in five of his last seven games.
Rockets beat Blazers
Houston won for just the seventh time on the road this year, earning a 123-107 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Jalen Green led the team with 27 points, including an emphatic dunk to put the game away. Fred VanVleet had 18 points and 10 assists and Alperen Sengun finished with 19 points.
The Rockets had lost four of their previous six games and were coming off a 122-116 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. Rockets coach Ime Udoka said he didn’t like the start, so he challenged the team at halftime. “I like the way they came out and responded to the challenge, to keep them to 24 in the third, 20 in the fourth. I really used the defense to ignite our game in general, so the energy was better and they responded well to it.” Udoka said.
It was the second of four meetings between the two teams. The Blazers won the first one in January. Green has been on a roll over the past eight days, scoring 23 or more points in four of his five games. Over the past two weeks, he averaged 22.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.3 blocks and 3.3 3-pointers while shooting 44 .5% from the field and 93.8% from the foul line.

Rating:
Sabonis had a monster game against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night, dropping 31 points, 17 rebounds and 9 dimes. The 27-year-old center continues to dominate. Sabonis narrowly missed recording his 23rd triple-double of the season, instead settling for his 45th straight double-double and extending his franchise record. Wilt Chamberlain’s all-time NBA record is an impossible 227 consecutive games, but Sabonis is within reach of Kevin Love’s 53-game streak in the 2010-11 season, the longest in the modern era. Since the start of February, Sabonis is averaging 20.4 points, 14.9 rebounds, 9.7 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 59.2 percent from the floor. Houston is a different club on the road, going 6-24 on the year. Take Sacramento.

Fred VanVleet logged 34 minutes in Friday’s win over Portland, totaling 18 points (5-of-13 FG, 4-of-4 FT), one rebound, 10 assists, one steal and four 3-pointers. VanVleet has recorded three point/assist double-doubles in his last four games, falling to two under in Wednesday’s loss to the Clippers. Over the past week, he averaged 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 9.8 assists, 2.0 steals and 4.8 3-pointers while shooting 45.6% from the from the field and 77.8% from the foul line. Sacramento will increase the tempo, and VanVleet and Green will have to shoulder the load and shoot the ball more than they would like. The total has gone over in five of Sacramento’s last six home games. Take over.
