Is Jaylen Brown a worthy NBA MVP?

For the first time in his career, Jaylen Brown is an NBA champion and won the Finals MVP award Although he has always lived in Jayson Tatum’s shadow, Brown has proven himself to be a talented star in his own right. Now that he’s won the big prize, can Jaylen claim the NBA regular season MVP award?
Brown has never been a top contender for the MVP award so far. He’s been in the league for a year before Tatum and yet he’s only been selected to three All-Star games. Tatum, on the other hand, has already played in five All-Star games. However, after winning the award and the FMVP, Brown has put the league on notice and could potentially become a bigger star than his All-Star teammate.
Looking at Brown’s stats for the 2023-24 season, he averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. That’s not as impressive as some of last season’s MVP leaders. In fact, it’s slightly less than Tatum’s averages of 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.0 steals. But after being crowned the 2024 NBA Finals MVP, it could allow Brown to push past his limits and significantly increase his numbers.
That said, Brown still has a few years to put together an MVP-worthy season. It’s just a matter of how badly he wants it. But given where the Boston Celtics are as the defending champions, we could see Brown give it his all on the court to rally his team to a successful title defense.
