Mike Gorman says Grant Williams was ‘a bad locker room guy’

Tatum responded to Celtics color commentator Mike Gorman, who explained on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Toucher & Hardy” that Williams’ antics had a short life.

“He was annoying to everyone. I think at first everyone thought he was kind of smart, but he’s kind of cute and kind of funny. Then it was just a little worn out. There were few people in Dallas, obviously. If you start facing (Luka) Doncic, obviously you won’t be there long.

Gorman also explained that because Williams is a big player, it’s easier for teams to get rid of him.

“He’s had some issues in that area (that) if he doesn’t get rid of it, he’s not going to have enough for teams to say, ‘Well, okay, but despite that, we’re going to keep here because he’s a great player.’ He’s not. He’s a walk-on. An eighth, ninth, tenth guy on your roster, so those guys are very replaceable. This guy is a bad locker room guy. If you’re a bad locker room guy, than you are eighth or ninth, you won’t stay eighth or ninth for long because you won’t stay in the team for long.

Williams only played 47 games for the Mavericks before trading him and a first-round draft pick for PJ Washington.

Michael Finley recalled the argument between Luka Doncic and Grant Williams

Mavericks assistant general manager Michael Finley explained a Mavericks practice skirmish between Williams and Luka Doncic. 105.3 The FAN the 11th of March.

“One day in training, a player on our team, I won’t say his name, but it’s Grant Williams. He decided he wanted to put himself in Luka’s shoes. He felt that Luka hadn’t come that day ready to train. Long story short, they had a scrimmage going on, and he was talking trash to Luka all over the field. So finally, Luka said, “Okay,” and Luka made it 26-6 on his own. You can ask anyone, I’m not exaggerating. He showed everything, the 3s, the post-ups, the floaters, everything by himself.

Finley made it seem like everyone was more impressed with Doncic than disappointed with Williams.

“Everyone on the sidelines, including the coaches, said not to poke the bear. That’s what everyone kept saying: don’t poke the bear. We had guests in the gym at the time, and they were on the sidelines, ooohing and ahhing. It was incredible. I was there and the kid couldn’t miss it. I’m not talking about easy shots, he showed the entire repertoire in five or six minutes. It was a 26-6 all by itself.
