Utah Jazz Goaltender Collin Sexton appears to be approaching the upcoming season with something to prove.
The 25-year-old goaltender is coming off one of his best campaigns in recent memory in 2023-24, a year where he returned to full health after an injury-riddled previous season and his previous form as an aggressive, productive backcourt scorer.
And with such a productive season from the Young Bull, he appears to have a renewed sense of confidence heading into his seventh professional year.
In a recent interview on the Come and talk to me In his podcast, Sexton had the audacity to call himself a top-10 point guard in the league, saying he has a “different kind of chip” on his shoulder:
“If I put myself in [the top 10] “That’s for sure. I’ll go up against anybody. At the end of the day, I don’t back down from anybody. I got a different kind of anger on my shoulder. I got a different kind of grind, when I get between those lines, it’s me against you.”

Sexton’s averages in 2023-24 have been some of the best we’ve seen from him. He’s recorded 18.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists on 48.7% shooting and 39.4% from three-point range.
The Alabama product began the year as a nightly sixth man, but then worked his way into the starting lineup midway through the season – ultimately being a starting five starter for 51 of his 78 games played, primarily playing alongside rookie counterpart Keyonte George.
Sexton, while one of the best point guards the league has to offer, may still be a long way from cracking the top 10. Especially when you consider the amount of talent at the position in the league right now, it’s a bit hard to put Sexton in the same category as perennial All-Stars as a top 10 point guard would be.
While the top 10 could be a worthy title for Sexton, there is clearly room for improvement heading into his third season in Utah, even as the team focuses on its younger players. He is an efficient scorer from all levels of the floor and could continue to improve on those high-efficiency numbers as he progresses in his career.
For Sexton to truly crack the top 10 among point guards, the Jazz will likely have to improve their win-loss record and have him score one more year. It’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility, but it’s bound to be an uphill battle.
Regardless, expect another year of electric production from Sexton heading into the Jazz’s impending 2024-25 season.
