It’s unclear where Miami Heat superstar Jimmy Butler will play after this season.

Butler is entering the final year of his contract, where he will look to prove he deserves a max deal, while the Heat management evaluates his value. With both teams potentially willing to terminate his contract, other teams are entering the game for the 35-year-old.

Brian Lewis of the New York Post suggests the Brooklyn Nets As a destination, Butler reports he is “fond” of the organization.

“Butler is not only open to Brooklyn, he is committed to it,” Lewis wrote. “Now, he is not a Net and he may never come close to becoming one. But to dismiss that possibility out of hand is foolish. Butler has decided he will play next season and “He won’t extend in Miami until he retires in 2025. He seems determined to become a free agent, even if (when?) the Heat end up making him a concrete offer.”

This trade doesn’t make sense for the Nets or Butler right now. Brooklyn management just launched a rebuild by shedding star forward Mikal Bridges and others, while the veteran star looks to win his first career championship.

Unless the lure of the city and money trumps the desire to win a title, it’s hard to imagine Butler in a Nets uniform.
