New York Knicks star Julius Randle made some literal fashion statements on his Instagram Story.
The three-time All-Star was apparently amused by the alleged lack of No. 30 merchandise at an official Knicks team store at Madison Square Garden: In a since-deleted post from the Knicks’ fan X account “Big Knicks Energy,” jerseys bearing the last names of OG Anunoby, Jalen Brunson, Donte DiVincenzo, Josh Hart and even newcomer Mikal Bridges were readily available, but Randle’s was apparently nowhere to be found.
“Did y’all feel that?” Randle asked, adding a pair of laughing emojis. In another post, Randle added text, this one hovering over a black light and declaring, “The truth will come out,” along with a smiling emoji adorned with sunglasses. Randle’s wife, Kendra, also got in on the fun on X, posting a series of laughing emojis on an NBA newsgathering account that has taken over her husband’s Instagram activity.
For what it’s worth, fans were quick to fill in mentions of Big Knick Energy with more recent offerings at the MSG store, where Randle wires were readily available for purchase. The account has since been published apologies.
It could well be that Randle is making fun of a misleading message, even if it wasn’t intentional: This latest post from the power forward could be a deep reference to the metropolitan exit of his predecessor Kristaps Porzingis, who made a similar statement on Instagram that “the truth will come out” after being sent to the Dallas Mavericks in a January 2019 trade. (thanks Kris Pursiainen).
Even if he’s having fun in a ridiculous situation, the idea of trading Randle will likely only gain momentum as long as he remains without a long-term contract extension with the Knicks. Randle, expected to return from a season-ending shoulder injury in January, became eligible for such a deal in August, but no apparent progress has been made despite his role in the Knicks’ push into the new decade.
