With Mikal Bridges join the The New York Knicks This season, the Villanova team Jalen Brunson, Donte DiVincenzo, Josh Hartand Bridges are back together. After their strong showing last season, things are looking pretty promising for New York. But ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst had some criticism of their offseason trades and contracts on the site Hoop Collective Podcastand that might not be music to the ears of Knicks fans.
“The Knicks-Bridges trade works from a flavor and fit standpoint. It was an extraordinarily high price they paid for Mikal Bridges,” Windhorst said the trade was made to pair Bridges with Jalen Brunson to strengthen their connection to Villanova and build a strong team around Brunson. While Bridges’ game fits well with the Knicks, Windhorst believes the $90 million is a steep price tag for a non-transformative player. However, the trade is part of a larger plan that also factors in Brunson’s extension.
Additionally, the analyst warned the Knicks about the $210 million contract extension for OG Anunoby. “I understand why they paid OG Anunoby as much as they paid him. I don’t think it’s necessarily a good contract.” Windhorst said: “Even though the team re-signed OG Anunoby to a five-year, $212 million contract as part of their strategy to form one of the best defensive end combinations in the NBA with Bridges, Windhorst believes that move could backfire in the future.”

‘Knicks are a title contender’ – Can Villanova’s chemistry work?
If we look at the Knicks’ playoff series with the Philadelphia 76ers, the strong chemistry between the three Villanova alumni was a huge factor in the Knicks’ victory. The addition of Villanova alum Mikal Bridges could further strengthen their chemistry.
“You know, when OG is on the team, the Knicks have an incredible record. You know, when he’s healthy, the Knicks are a title contender,” Co-host Tim MacMahon said: “The answer to that is that he is not healthy enough often. “Last season, OG Anunoby was injured in the Knicks’ series against the Indiana Pacers in Game 3, and unfortunately, the Knicks lost and were eliminated from the playoffs.
But on the bright side, Anunoby and Bridges can both shoot three-pointers and help the Knicks on defense. Whether this duo will work well together won’t be known until the season starts. What do you think?
