THE Dallas Mavericks fans were left worried, with their hearts in their mouths as their team’s best player Luka Doncic returned to the locker room after suffering a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter of their 109-99 home victory over the Golden State Warriors.

The injury kept Doncic sidelined as he did not travel with his team to Oklahoma where they lost to the Thunder in a thrilling matchup. Despite Kyrie Irving’s 30-point game, Doncic was missed by his team as they failed to capitalize on the Phoenix Suns’ loss and remained in the play-in spots.

Doncic’s injury comes at the worst time for his franchise as they strive to avoid the dreaded play-in and reach the NBA Playoffs via automatic qualification. As reported by popular journalist Shams Charania, the Mavs were relieved to know that Luka’s injury was not serious and that he should be back for Sunday’s all-important clash.

Luka Doncic participated in Saturday’s practice but the Dallas Mavericks listed him as “questionable” due to left hamstring soreness for the game against the Nuggets. Apart from Doncic, goalkeeper Dante Exum is also listed as questionable for the Mavericks. Josh Green is out for the contest after rolling his ankle in the first quarter against OKC.

Before he was injured, Luka became the first player to score five consecutive 35-point triple-doubles, six consecutive 30-point triple-doubles and seven consecutive triple-doubles.

Luka Doncic faces Nikola Jokic is also an important topic of discussion given both superstars’ bids for season MVP winners. Doncic is the leading scorer this season but Jokic is currently the favorite to win the MVP award. The matchup if Doncic plays could be a big deciding factor.

Dallas is currently eighth in the Western Conference with a 38-29 record, one game behind sixth place and an automatic playoff berth. The match against the reigning champions Denver Nuggets will be a good test for the team as to whether they should be considered serious playoff contenders.

Since the trade deadline, the Mavericks have been up and down with a seven-game winning streak followed by just one win in five games. Then winning three in a row again before losing to OKC.
