Luka Doncic is one of the NBA’s greatest players at age 25, having been named to the All-NBA First Team five times. He has enjoyed unprecedented personal success and led The Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals last season. But sometimes, it’s all about physical appearance.

The Ringtone Ryen Russillo released his annual NBA quarterback-to-player comparison podcast this week, comparing Aaron Rodgers to Kevin Durant, Tua Tagovailoa to Trae Young, and Caleb Williams to Scott Henderson. So who did he compare Doncic to?

Russillo just compared Bryce Young to Marvin Bagley because you worry about the guy who gets picked right after him. Doncic was picked right after Bagley and has been an elite player while Bagley is barely hanging on in the NBA. Russillo then jokes, “Speaking of Luka… Trent Dilfer? Thick, white, fiery… No. And also a reach.”

Although Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens as a starting quarterback, he was not an elite quarterback. Dilfer never made an All-Pro team, although he made a Pro Bowl with the Ravens. Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1997, but he threw more interceptions in his career (129) than touchdowns (113).

A more fitting comparison would have been Josh Allen, an unorthodox player who has led his team to heights it hasn’t seen in years, but is facing one of the best players the game has ever seen in the same conference (Patrick Mahomes for Allen, Nikola Jokic (for Doncic). Instead, Russillo chose to compare Allen to Caitlin Clark, the phenomenal rookie of the WNBA’s Indiana Fever.

Some Mavericks fans would have preferred Doncic to be compared to Patrick Mahomes, who is a die-hard Mavericks fan, but Mahomes is truly a role model.
