The Dallas Mavericks found their starting power forward last season when they traded for PJ Washington. It was a move the Mavs desperately needed, as Grant Williams struggled to live up to the expectations that had been placed on him.

Washington became the perfect piece for Dallas. He helped consolidate the team’s defense and contributed greatly to their long playoff run. Washington’s three-point shooting played a key role in Dallas’ advance to the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

He and Derrick Jones Jr. were the team’s primary starting forwards. They helped alleviate the Mavs’ need for a 3-and-D player. Their defense helped Dallas win against the LA Clippers. Their duo gave Dallas depth and size in areas where they had consistently struggled in the past.

Washington will have a new teammate by his side, however. It has been reported that Klay Thompson to start at the wing position. This will be a big change, as Thompson will make life easier for Washington, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. His presence could also open up Washington’s scoring ability, as he will draw the attention of the defense.

The question will be who will be Washington’s backup. Maxi Kleber is expected to be the team’s backup forward and spend time at the 4 and 5. That could be concerning for Dallas, as Kleber has yet to take that step. He fought He has had to repeat his defensive performances from two years ago and his long-range shooting has declined. Naji Marshall and Olivier-Maxence Prosper are also substitutes.

One possible option could be to trade a former fan favorite. This trade could further solidify the Mavs.

In the trade proposal, the Mavericks are offering a small batch of players and a draft pick to get someone with strong ties to Dallas. We’ll dive into the details of the trade and grade the trade for both teams involved.
