For some, it’s a plastic water bottle wrapped in sports tape. For others, it’s a piece of history.
LélandsNew Jersey-based sports memorabilia auction house auctions off Luka Doncic’s in-game water bottle from his franchise record 73 point game in the Nonconformists‘ victory against the Atlanta Hawks on January 26.
The “special stuff” inscription on the water bottle is an homage to Michael Jordan’s water bottle from Space Jam. And if you’re lucky enough to win Doncic’s hydration carrier, the auction site will include a game information sheet that was given to Atlanta Hawks employees.
There have been three bids for the water bottle, and the current bid is $123.
The 2024 Winter Classic auction also includes a baseball signed by another Texas sports hero, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, from his high school days at Whitehouse near Tyler.
The sports memorabilia market is having a moment. According to a recent Market analysis reportits global value was $227.2 billion in 2021.
While a bottle of water sold in the hundreds may seem odd, other oddities are highly valued on the market, including a towel used to unofficially recruit 13-year-old Lionel Messi to FC Barcelona. It is being sold at an online auction with a starting bid of $380,000, according to NPR.
