The best players in the NBA tend to have a killer instinct that allows them to go on absurd scoring drives on their own. Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić has apparently developed his own killer instinct, and one of his former teammates experienced it in practice.
Speaking on 105.3 The Fan, Mavericks assistant general manager Michael Finley told the story of a time when Grant Williams, who was negotiated to the Charlotte Hornets at the trade deadline, decided to challenge Dončić after feeling that the star was not performing his best in practice.
“One day in practice, a player or a teammate, I won’t say his name, but it was Grant Williams,” Finley said. “He decided he wanted to put himself in Luka’s shoes. He felt Luka didn’t come that day ready to train. Long story short, they had a scrimmage going on, he was talking bullshit at Luka all over the court. So finally, Luka says, ‘Okay.’ And I tell you, Luka made it 26-6 all by himself.”

There’s no denying Dončić’s ability to score (he’s averaging 34.3 points per game this season), but having a killer instinct could be just what he needs to help the Mavericks get to the next level.
Dallas currently sits in eighth place in the Western Conference with a 38-28 record, and Dončić will look to continue his MVP-caliber season to ensure his team reaches the playoffs. If the star can have moments like he had during this particular playoff practice, the Mavericks could be in for a big playoff run.
