The Minnesota Timberwolves managed to climb into the top three of the Western Conference and make their way to the Western Conference Finals a year ago behind budding superstar Anthony Edwards and their frontcourt duo of Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert.

This offseason, the plan was simple: go back. The Timberwolves appear to be hoping for another year of experience and more development from Edwards.

As the 2024 NBA offseason rolled around, the team made just one big move by trading Rob Dillingham on draft night, which went a long way toward making him a top player. I was delighted with the pre-draft including Derek Parker of Draft Digest.

“He’s a prolific scorer, one of Kentucky’s best, and his size hardly matters in that regard. He’s lightning fast, has a quick first step capable of generating paint touches with ease and is exceptionally fluid when stepping into his shots,” Parker wrote for Draft Digest.

The Kentucky native is set to make his NBA debut against the Los Angeles Lakers on TNT on NBA Opening Night on Oct. 22 — headlining the second game of the 2024-25 campaign. His debut comes against LeBron James, Bronny James Jr. and Dalton Knecht.

Dillingham was the Timberwolves’ biggest offseason acquisition, a team that battled for first place in the West until the final day of the regular season and won 56 games last year. The organization jumped into the top 10 to select the scoring leader, indicating the team intends to use him in the regular season.

This is a massive first game for Dillingham and the Timberwolves under the bright lights of the Crypto dot com arena.
