What there is to know

After six games on the road, the Timberwolves return home. After playing yesterday, they will return immediately and host the Denver Nuggets at 9 p.m. ET on March 19 at Target Center. The Nuggets suffered a loss in their last game and will look to turn things around against the Timberwolves, who are coming off a win.

On Monday, Minnesota beat the Jazz 114-104. The victory came thanks to a strong push at the 0:52 mark of the first quarter, as the Timberwolves faced a 35-19 deficit.

Anthony Edwards was the offensive star of the game, scoring 32 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. He’s been hot recently, scoring 25 or more points the last four times he’s played. Mike Conley’s dreadful 0-5 three-point shooting was less helpful for the Timberwolves.

Meanwhile, after a five-game winning streak, the Nuggets’ good fortune finally ran out on Sunday. They lost 107-105 to Dallas on a last-minute shot by Kyrie Irving. The game was as close as oddsmakers predicted, but the Nuggets were slight favorites.

The Nuggets struggled to get the ball on offense and finished the game with just six offensive rebounds. They were dismantled by their opponents in this department as the Mavericks pulled down 21 offensive rebounds.

Minnesota’s win was its third straight on the road, improving its record to 47-21. As for Denver, their loss ended a five-game road winning streak and brought them to 47-21.

Tuesday’s game is one where the number of possessions will likely be a big factor: the Timberwolves haven’t given up the ball easily this season, averaging just 13.5 turnovers per game. However, it’s not like the Nuggets (currently ranked fourth in turnovers per game) are struggling in this department as they’ve only averaged 11.7 turnovers per game. Given these competing forces, it will be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

The Timberwolves won against the Nuggets in the teams’ last matchup in November 2023 by a conclusive 110-89. With the Timberwolves ahead 63-44 at halftime, the game was already almost over.
