THE Brooklyn Nets made it clear this offseason that they were rebuilding after trading Mikal Bridges At The New York Knicks in July in exchange for a slew of draft picks. Now that Brooklyn has plenty of draft capital in its stash, it’s possible they could change course for the franchise sooner than expected.
“Who controls free agency next year? Next summer could be controlled by the Brooklyn Nets“, ESPN analyst Bobby Marks said in a video answering some burning questions ahead of the 2024-25 season. While the Nets will focus on developing some of the young talent they have on the team, it’s hard to ignore that they have the kind of ammunition to make waves next offseason.
“If they want to, they certainly have four first-round picks,” Marks said. “They have their own pick that could potentially be a top-three or top-four pick. They have a New York (Knicks) pick, probably an Oklahoma City (Thunder) pick. They have a Milwaukee (Bucks) pick that if it doesn’t fall in the top four, they’re in a good spot in terms of draft equity.”
As Marks points out, the Nets could have up to four NBA players have made first-round picks for the 2025 NBA Draft, and so they can use all of those picks to add plenty of young talent to the roster. They could also use some of those draft picks to acquire a player they want if they want to speed up the timeline of this rebuild, but that will most likely depend on how the team looks next season.
As Nets Wire did writing At various points this season, Brooklyn has been tipped to be one of the worst teams in the league this season after choosing to fully invest in their current rebuild. However, if players like Nic Claxton and Cam Thomas can defy the odds, the Nets could be in a position to surprise a lot of people next summer.
