What will the Houston Rockets look like in the 2024-25 season? The only real roster change they made was the addition of Reed Sheppard, who will elevate the team’s play in a sixth-man role.
However, most of the players who contributed to the team, apart from Fred VanVleet and Alperen Sengun, are promising young prospects who should improve next season, so some improvement is to be expected.
Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report He predicted the win-loss totals for every NBA team after the league’s schedule was released. Bailey predicted a 44-38 winning season for Houston.
“One of the revelations of last season, the Houston Rockets crushed their 2023-24 over-under by nine wins,” Bailey wrote. “And in 2024-25, in addition to bringing back a young, deep core that includes Alperen Şengün, Jabari Smith Jr., Jalen Green, Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore, Houston has a real contender for Rookie of the Year in Reed Sheppard.”
The Rockets’ young core makes their ability to compete next season very interesting. They’ve started to build an identity and culture in Houston, and having VanVleet and Brooks anchoring the team as veterans means the improvement of the young core can have a huge impact.
“Just in terms of internal development, a three-win improvement almost seems like an overly conservative estimate for this group. But then again, we’re dealing with the Western Conference,” Bailey continued. “The Rockets could look significantly better in 2024-25 and finish with a win total in the low 30s. Improvement in the NBA isn’t always linear, especially in terms of winning percentage.”
Bailey has a very positive outlook on the Western Conference landscape. Finishing with 44 wins while showing incredible signs of improvement could be enough to signal to the Rockets that they’ve pushed the right buttons.
For Houston, visible improvement would be incredible, but the club has yet to choose a direction moving forward, and solidifying young talent will be key to doing so.
