THE The Cleveland Cavaliers Not only did they choose not to make any major moves this offseason, they doubled down on their young core.
The Cavaliers have agreed to contract extensions for Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, quelling any trade speculation surrounding the group.
Well, for now.
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report questions whether or not the polarizing frontcourt tandem of Allen and Mobley will stand the test of time and believes that’s the biggest storyline for Cleveland heading into the 2024-25 NBA campaign.
“While things have remained largely the same in Cleveland this offseason, debates over whether its two bigs can coexist have also taken place,” Buckley wrote. “Mobley and Allen might share the same forward line for now, but time could be running out for this two-round tandem.”
Fans and pundits have doubted Allen and Mobley’s long-term compatibility for some time. While Mobley has certainly made an effort to extend his range beyond the three-point line, the floor spacing of the Cavs’ frontcourt remains questionable.
As a result, some believe the Cavaliers should split up their big man duo and bring in a player who better fits the modern NBA landscape.
If Cleveland ultimately decides to trade Allen or Mobley at some point, the former would almost certainly be the one to go, as Mobley has a higher ceiling and the Cavs have more invested in the former third overall pick.
The Cavaliers are obviously willing to give their current roster another chance, but if they fail to improve this year, they risk getting screwed.
