The New York Knicks lost center Isaiah Hartenstein to the Oklahoma City Thunder this summer, leaving them thinner in their front court.

Hartenstein played a vital role in New York’s success during his two seasons with the team, appearing in 157 games (including 57 as a starter) and averaging 7.4 rebounds in just 22.4 minutes per game. That production earned him a three-year, $87 million contract with the Thunder.

To stay in the Eastern Conference race, the Knicks need to replace Hartenstein at center. That won’t be an easy feat, especially considering what the 26-year-old center has brought to the table on both ends of the floor.

In an article by Sean Deveney of Heavy SportsIt has been reported that an NBA executive has discussed a trade between the Knicks and the Chicago Bulls that would bring two-time All-Star center Nikola Vucevic to New York.

“The Knicks aren’t really Tom’s type of big man, but when you look at Boston, they can play five,” one Western Conference executive told Heavy Sports. “They can put five shooters on the floor. That’s going to be key for any team that wants to keep up with them. The Knicks can’t do that, but if you add a guy like (Vucevic) and it changes the game.”

While the executive acknowledged that Vucevic isn’t your typical Tom Thibodeau player, likely due to his mediocre defense, the two-time NBA All-Star could help them offensively if the price made sense.
