Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is arguably having his best season as a pro. Will that be enough for an MVP?
DALLAS- The Dallas Mavericks face the Philadelphia 76ers Sunday noon on WFAA! Don’t know how to watch? here is a explanation on how to connect — and you’re guaranteed to get the clearest broadcast signal possible.
Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is arguably having his best season as a pro. Statistically, there’s no doubt about it: heading into Sunday’s noon game against the 76ers on WFAA, Doncic averages 34.5 points per game9.7 assists and 8.9 rebounds.
He’s been a triple-double machine, even as the Mavericks have tried to find their footing after a rash of injuries early in the season.
So is Doncic a favorite for MVP? Not quite, at least not yet.
The Mavericks’ 34-26 record and eighth-place finish in the Western Conference have seemingly kept Doncic from being a favorite for the NBA’s highest individual honor. But it’s still within reach, according to the latest odds and rankings.
Doncic will get another chance to showcase his game on the national stage when the Mavericks host the 76ers. In the meantime, here’s where he stands in the latest odds and predictions:
NBA.com “Kia MVP Ladder”
Doncic ranked 5th in the last Kia MVP scale ranking, compiled by NBA.com. That’s behind Celtics star Jaysom Tatum at No. 4, former two-time Bucks MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo at No. 3, Oklahoma City star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at No. 2 and the defending champion of the NBA Nikola Jokic at No. 1.
What separates Doncic from this top 4? The Mavs’ record, apparently.
“We understand that he has scored more than 25 goals in nine consecutive games,” wrote Michael C. Wright. “But the highlights and massive numbers aside, Doncic needs to get Dallas out of Play-In tournament territory to move to the top of this list.
Betting odds range from sports betting to sports betting, but as Sport Betting Dime compiled itit appears to be a three-player race: Jokic, Gilgeous-Alexander and Doncic.
As of this week, the best odds for each player are -135 for Jokic, +230 for Gilgeous-Alexander and +650 for Doncic.
Where did Luka finish voting before?
Doncic has seemingly improved every season with the Mavericks, and he has regularly been in the mix for MVP. After winning Rookie of the Year in 2018-19, Doncic finished 4th, 6th, 5th and 8th in MVP voting. He was also named to the All-NBA first team in each of the last four seasons.
