THE Sacramento Kings The Kings certainly turned heads this summer, but most of the NBA media remains undecided about their expectations. After winning 48 games in 2022-23 and 46 last season, the Kings can’t afford another decline.
Fortunately, Monte McNair and the Sacramento management put together a respectable offseason, headlined by one of the NBA’s biggest blockbusters.
Bleacher Report Dan Favale revealed what he considers Sacramento’s “biggest win” and “biggest loss” of the 2024 offseason.
Favale writes that Sacramento’s biggest victory this offseason is “the offense that’s back,” regarding the signing and trade of six-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan.
Just two seasons ago, the Kings had the best offense in the NBA, but they fell and landed in the middle of the pack last season. Adding a prolific scorer and an improved playmaker like DeRozan will undoubtedly Relaunch the Kings’ offensive.
An offensive trio of De’Aaron Fox, DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis will certainly give opposing defenses nightmares. The Kings haven’t had that type of offensive arsenal in years, and there’s no reason it shouldn’t be enough to get them back to the playoffs.
Favale’s biggest loss for the Kings this offseason was “Devin Carter.” The Kings have as much experience with lottery selections as any other NBA franchise, so being drafted 13th overall was no surprise. It was a surprise, however, that they selected Providence Friars point guard Devin Carter.
The Kings were loaded with depth at the back end, especially with the emergence of Keon Ellis as one of the most prolific defensive backs in the league. The Kings had two gaping holes in their team, wing depth and big man depth, so their decision to draft a back end was a head-scratcher.
Carter is a standout prospect and will undoubtedly make an impact once he gets on the court, but there is concern that he may not touch a basketball court until 2025.
The 22-year-old recruit had shoulder surgery in July, sidelining him for at least six months. After the news, the Kings pivoted and signed veteran guard Jordan McLaughlin to fulfill its rolebut the Kings and all of Sacramento want to see their lottery pick play out as soon as possible.
I wouldn’t consider Carter’s selection Sacramento’s “biggest loss” this offseason, especially considering how talented the young guard is on both ends of the floor.
