As the 2024-25 NBA season approaches, members of the 2024 rookie class will have the opportunity to make themselves known to NBA fans by standing out. In a league full of countless niches, there are plenty of avenues for these players to get noticed early on. Rookies in particular can stand out by reaching those superlatives, and right now, they’re the guys most likely to occupy them.

Player most likely to have an impact in the playoffs: Zach Edey, Memphis Grizzlies

To be a candidate for that superlative, a rookie needs to be on a competitive team. Not only does Edey fit that bill, but he also enters the league as the current top player in the class and with a presumed starting role. He will be tasked with the important role of screening for Ja Morant, finishing plays at the basket and holding down the boards as the Grizzlies continue their championship aspirations.

Player most likely to be on an all-defensive team: Donovan Clingan, Portland Trail Blazers

While it’s rare for a rookie to be selected to an All-Defensive team, Clingan comes into the NBA with one of the best rim protection profiles in the league. The 6-foot-4 big man not only uses his size inside, but he also has excellent timing in his plays and terrific instincts. While it will be an uphill battle, no rookie is better equipped to earn that distinction than Clingan.

Player most likely to make 200 three-pointers: Reed Sheppard, Houston Rockets

In the 2022-23 campaign, Keegan Murray became the first rookie to make 200 three-pointers in a season. However, Brandon Miller came very close last season with 184 three-pointers. Sheppard has a good chance of joining Murray in that exclusive club, having just shot over 50 percent from three-point range as a freshman at Kentucky. Ultimately, his playing time will be the most important factor, but if he can carve out a niche in the game, the sharpshooter has a good chance of making 200 three-pointers.
