THE Emirates NBA Cup is back, this time with a swanky new name and a year of understanding how the nuanced tournament works.
Introduced last season, the tournament in season is back with different groups, which were announced halfway through Summer League. And on Tuesday, the actual roster was revealed, with the Thunder playing in two nationally televised games.
The Thunder, who are joined by the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz and San Antonio Spurs in Group B, will host the Suns to begin group play on Nov. 15. The following Tuesday, OKC will travel to San Antonio to take on the Spurs on TNT in the late evening. That Friday, the Thunder will travel to Los Angeles for a showdown with the Lakers on ESPN. OKC will then close out group play by hosting the Jazz on Dec. 3.
The rules are the same: matches take place every Tuesday and Friday during the group stage. The teams with the best record in their group, plus two wild cards (one team from each conference with the best ranking among the teams that finished second in their group) will advance to the knockout stage.
Last season, the Thunder lost all but one of their group games. The only team that is familiar from last year is the Spurs.
