Nets announce that BJ Johnson has been promoted to assistant GM

While Brooklyn will focus on evaluating the young talent on the roster, they will also give plenty of behind-the-scenes talent a chance to showcase their skills.

Among those promoted were BJ Johnsonwho is elevated to the position of deputy general manager alongside general manager Sean Marks within the management.

Johnson, whose most recent role was senior director of college scouting and player evaluation, now adds the responsibility of assistant general manager while retaining his previous scouting duties. According to Brooklyn’s press release, Johnson “will continue to oversee Brooklyn’s preparation for the NBA Draft after playing a lead role in the evaluation and selection of a number of Nets prospects.”

Johnson began his tenure with the Nets heading into the 2016-17 season after being hired as the coordinator of player development following an 11-year stint with USA Basketball during which he served as an assistant director. As part of the press release, it should be noted that Johnson was a major reason the Nets were able to find a starting center Nic ClaxtonTHE 31st overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft, and turn him into a player who would eventually earn the four-year, $97 million contract he signed this offseason to return to Brooklyn.
