THE Brooklyn Nets The Cardinals are headed into a rebuild where they will prioritize the development of their recent draft picks and other young players on the team. One player on the roster Brooklyn will be keeping a close eye on is 2023 first-round pick Dariq Whitehead, a player still recovering from injury.
“I’m just happy to be out there running. Last year I was out there with my boots on and I had crutches,” Whitehead said. said Last month at the Las Vegas Summer League, he talked about his shooting struggles. In his first appearance in Vegas since missing his rookie season while recovering from foot surgery, Whitehead didn’t play the way many Nets fans had hoped he would on offense.
“Just being able to be out there with the guys and not watch them is a huge blessing for me,” Whitehead said. “I don’t want to let the shots and misses get to me right now because I want to make sure I work on things. I know once I get going and get my legs back, I’m going to make shots. That’s what I’m doing.”
This summer, Whitehead played four games for the Nets in summer league and while he appeared to be mostly back physically, he still shot just 14.6% from the field and 5.0% from three-point range. While Whitehead hasn’t played the way he hoped this summer, it’s good to know he still has the confidence to do his job.
