THE Brooklyn Nets The Red Sox made big moves this offseason, hiring former Sacramento Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez and re-signing center Nic Claxton to a four-year, $97 million contract as a free agent. As Fernandez joined the team for the first time, he had no doubt that Claxton was someone he wanted on the team no matter what.

“He was our priority this summer. He plays a big role in what we’re trying to do age-wise and how he’s progressed over the years,” Fernandez said in an interview with HoopsHype Michael Scotto When asked about Claxton, there was a lot of talk about the possibility of the Nets bringing Claxton back to Brooklyn because of his upcoming contract, which is estimated to be around $25 million per year.

“The organization and I believe he continues to improve and has a shot at being a Defensive Player of the Year,” Fernandez said. “He’s a good playmaker and he can get even better. We’re excited about his development and that he’s going to be a part of the organization for the long haul.”

When Fernandez was introduced At his press conference earlier this summer, Fernandez told the media that he believes Claxton has the ability to become a Defensive Player of the Year. Given the way Fernandez spoke about Claxton, it seems like the two are destined for a fruitful partnership.
