While Claxton has said multiple times in recent years that his defensive prowess is underappreciated by the rest of the NBA, it seems his voice is going unheard.
ESPN NBA pundits recently published an article in which they picked players who should win certain end-of-season awards, such as Defensive Player of the Year. When it came time for the pundits to pool their votes for the award, Claxton received zero votes for that honor.
This shouldn’t be surprising given that the Nets aren’t expected to be very good next season now that the franchise is going through a rebuilding process following the trade of Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks. That won’t change unless Brooklyn is better than expected, but Claxton will always seem like the best version of himself no matter what.
