OG Anunoby dribbles.
After an embarrassing match against the Philadelphia 76ersTHE New York Knicks reached their lowest point of the season. The Knicks scored just 73 points in a 79-73 loss on March 10, making it the first time since 2016 that two teams have scored below 80 points in a game. Scoring fewer than 80 points is unheard of in the modern NBA, but that’s what happens when the Knicks are seriously injured. Fortunately, it looks like OG Anunoby could be poised to help the team after suffering a right elbow injury that required surgery.
Shams Charania from “Run It Back FanDuel TV” provided the latest news about Anunoby.
“OG Anunoby is close, it’s about the time you’d expect him to be back on the field. So look next week or so, OG Anunoby will be back on the field.
This report comes after Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau Anunoby alluded, Julius RandleAnd Mitchell Robinson come back in the near future.
“They can travel. Hopefully OG is cleared and can play.
The Knicks fight on full display against the 76ers
The New York Knicks are 4-6 in their last 10 games, barely holding on to the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. New York is 0.5 games ahead of Magic of Orlando and 1 game ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers.
Over the last 15 games, the Knicks have the 10th worst net rating in basketball at -4.4. While they were going 14-2 and had just added Anunoby, they posted a 15.8 net rating in January, the best in basketball at 5.6 points.
When the Knicks played Warriors of the Golden State on February 29, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke about the struggles the Knicks were facing, pointing to injuries as the reason.
“Obviously the Knicks were shorthanded tonight. They’re going through it right now from an injury standpoint. So we surprised them one night where they had to play against their guys for a lot of minutes. It’s never easy.
He added how well they were playing a month ago before dealing with injuries.
“Obviously they’ve been crushed by injuries, they were playing better than anyone a month or so ago, but that’s all part of it. We all go through things during the season and they, obviously, go through them. We know their team even if we don’t see them often, we know Jalen Brunson very well, we know Josh Hart very well… Tom’s teams are always courageous and defensive.
Julius Randle injury update
Charania also gave an update on New York Knicks star Randle, but it appears he’s going to be out longer than Anunoby.
“Julius Randle continues to train. His shoulder injury is one where he needs to make sure he completes all the rehabilitation. For OG Anunoby, it was about getting back on the field, being able to shoot again, being able to get back to contact work. For Julius Randle, it’s much more with this shoulder injury.
Things are shaping up for the Knicks to be healthy. With the playoffs starting on April 20, it’s now time for the Knicks to put it all together and get back on the court.
