Babies born the week of Kobe Bryant’s birthday at UCLA Health hospitals received special care packages from the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Lakers set included a No. 8 hat, a onesie, and a blanket. The package also included parent T-shirts with the No. 24.
“Welcome to the world’s newest Lakers fans,” read a message posted on the Los Angeles Lakers X page, which included photos of some of the newborns wearing their new Lakers gear.

The late basketball star would have celebrated his 46th birthday on August 23. The following day, August 24, is officially known as “Kobe Bryant Day” or “Mamba Day.”
This week, all newborns born at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center and the Ronald Reagan UCLA Center received Kobe-inspired gifts.
A congratulatory message included in the care package read:
“Welcome to the world! This day just got even more special! The world has always celebrated Kobe Bryant on this day. Your growing family now has even more reasons to cherish this day. To your little one, the next generation Lakers fan. And to Kobe, may your family always continue his legacy by wearing purple and gold. Congratulations.”

Several events were planned in Southern California to honor the Black Mamba.
